Interdisciplinary Summer Workshop
23th July - 3th August 2007
Palucca Schule Dresden – Hochschule für Tanz

Muses at Palucca Schule Dresden

Following a long tradition of summer workshops at the Palucca Schule Dresden the first NEW summer workshop (Sommerwerkstatt) entitled Muse 7_07 took place between July 23 and August 3, 2007.

The seventh muse named Terpsichore the “one who delights in dance” was the inspiration for a comprehensive workshop program including international dance teachers such as Ana Catalina Román, Yossi Yungman, Antonella Cusimano, Trinidad Sevillano, Christian Münch and Angela Rannow. The six teachers did not follow a conventional teaching concept, but gave the over 70 participants an overview of the contemporary dance scene ranging from classical and contemporary dance over Forsythe Improvisation Techniques, Ivengar Yoga, theory and composition to script and dance and special courses for children.

New to Dresden were the “Creative Residencies”. Three choreographers were given a grant as well as the possibility to use the facilities and technology at the Palucca Schule. Additionally, two dramaturgs Heidi Gilpin and Célestine Hennermann critically and creatively assisted them during the development phase. Italian choreographer Alessio Trevisani and his team of two dancers, a musician/video artists and costume designer as well as dancer/choreographer Friederike Plafki with two dancers and one musician came from Berlin. In Dresden they met with the Spanish choreographer Ignacio Martínez who started working on his project together with a stage designer, two musicians and several international dancers.

The “Creative Residency” was characterized by an active exchanged within the team and with the dramaturgs. The “Creative Residencies” were concluded with a presentation of their “work in progress”. The audience was presented with a diverse program that did not only show aspects of contemporary dance, but again enriched Dresden’s dance scene.

For Plafki, Trevisani and Martínez the two weeks were a platform for artistic exchange and networking. Alessio Trevisani and Ignacio Martinez will expand upon their works in order to show them at other venues and apply for additional funding. Friederike Plafki already presented her work “Dialogue-Triovariation for a square” at the Festspielhaus Hellerau and at the Pumpwerk Berlin.

May the muses kiss even more often.
